Founded in 2006 and set amongst 170 acres of the beautiful wooded Shournagh Valley, Blarney Golf Resort is becoming one of the biggest players in the Irish golf industry. Just 10km from Cork City, you are also no more than a stone’s throw from the world famous Blarney Stone.
Comprising a four-star hotel, spa, health club and much more, it is a fantastic retreat that can also attribute much of its success and growing popularity to its terrific golf course.
The Resort's impressive signature championship golf course was co designed by two-time Major winner, John Daly. The course meanders through almost 7,000 yards of beautiful, mature parkland and, as you might well expect, there are plenty signs of Daly’s influence. The Par 5 601 yard 8th, for example. “This golf course has something for all players”, says the man himself. “A real championship test but also somewhere where you can have fun.”
If you are a fan of big hitting, this course is for you. Daly has the ‘grip it and rip it’ attitude which is certainly apparent here. The long 200 yard carries on the 7th and 8th will impress the ‘power blasters’. Don’t think that you will find this course easy, as there are a number of tricks to look out for around greens where bunkers and hollows are sometimes not seen. Be sure to check your par saver guide for the Par 4 10th as a shot at 2 o’clock over the trees is often better than straight down the fairway.
Having completed your round of golf you can take advantage of the impressive club house facilities which include a sauna in the locker room and the superb Lion’s Den bar and restaurant where you can relax and enjoy great food and beverage from the balconies overlooking the 18th green.
